The Ashe County Board of Commissioners and the Planning Board are currently accepting membership applications to serve on the Ashe County Planning Board from interested members of the public. Applicants must be a citizen of Ashe County and should possess an interest in the current and future development of the County. The Planning Board meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Courthouse. All citizens interested in applying should contact the Ashe County Director of Planning at 336-846-5528 or by email at email@example.com. BUILDING INSPECTIONS ADVISORY BOARD Created by the Board of Commissioners to work with the Building Inspections Department and to be a liaison between the Building Inspections Department and contractors.CEMETERY COMMITTEE Created by the Board of Commissioners in October 2009 to oversee cemeteries in Ashe County.FARMLAND PRESERVATION ADVISORY BOARDTo promote health, safety, and rural agricultural values; to increase identity and pride in the agricultural community and its way of life; to encourage the economic and financial health of farming; to increase protection from undesirable, non-farm development; and increase the protection of farms from nuisance suits and other negative impacts on properly managed farms.HCCOG WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARDProvides policy guidance and independent oversight of workforce development services for workforces in the seven-county region.HOME & COMMUNITY CARE BLOCK GRANT COMMITTEEDesigned to improve planning and coordination of in-home and community-based services provided to older adults. Commissioners are required to appoint a committee to plan and coordinate the development of a county funding plan.JUVENILE CRIME PREVENTION COUNCIL The Board of Commissioners must appoint the JCPC membership to receive funding for juvenile court services and delinquency prevention programs.LIBRARY BOARDServes as governing body of the Appalachian Regional Library as defined by the three-county Interlocal Agreement adopted June 2012. LOCAL EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEEThe committee coordinates hazardous material planning, preparedness, response and mitigation issues at the local level. The Board of Commissioners has the authority to appoint a member to the town’s planning board to represent this area.
